Eligibility Minimum Increases July 1, 2019
For the coverage period beginning March 1, 2020, the eligibility threshold for both Option A and Option B will increase from $1,400 to $1,500 for six months of coverage. The coverage period beginning March 1, 2020 is based on the July 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019 contribution cycle.
As in the past, if contributions made on your behalf in a six-month cycle exceed the minimum level ($1,500), you may apply the excess to the next cycle to help meet the minimum eligibility level for another six months of coverage. Excess contributions may be carried forward one period only.
Corresponding changes will be made to the threshold for one year of coverage. The contribution threshold for a year of coverage beginning September 1, 2019 will increase from $2,800 to $2,900 (based on contributions accrued during the January 1, 2019 to June 30, 2019 contribution cycle). The $2,900 threshold will be in place for this one period only and represents the total of the $1,400 contribution threshold for six months of coverage effective September 1, 2019 and the $1,500 contribution threshold for six months of coverage effective March 1, 2020.
Effective March 1, 2020, the contribution threshold for one year of coverage will increase to $3,000, which is double the $1,500 required for six months of coverage (contributions accrued during the July 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019 contribution cycle).
The new $1,500 threshold for eligibility applies to both Option A (Aetna and Kaiser Permanente) and to Option B (the medical spending account).
